Can you use a website template for client work or multiple websites? This 2026 licensing guide explains single-use, unlimited-site, transfer, modification and redistribution rules across Webflow, Framer and Flowmance.

Yes, website templates can usually be used for client work, but that does not automatically mean one purchase can be reused across unlimited clients. The license attached to the template controls how many websites you can build, whether you can transfer the finished site to a client, and whether the underlying template can be reused.
The most important distinction in 2026 is between single-use licenses and multi-project or unlimited-site licenses. Webflow Marketplace paid templates use a single-use model. Framer Marketplace listings also commonly display a Single-Use license, while some creators sell separate extended or unlimited-site options. Flowmance offers both individual template licensing and broader multi-project rights on eligible All Access plans.
| Question | Typical answer |
|---|---|
| Can I use a template for a client? | Usually yes, when the license permits commercial/client work. |
| Can I reuse one paid template for another client? | Not under a single-use license. You need another license or a plan that explicitly permits multiple projects. |
| Can I heavily customize the template? | Usually yes, but customization does not erase the original license. |
| Can I transfer the finished website to my client? | Usually yes when client work is permitted; check the platform or creator terms. |
| Can I resell the template itself? | No under standard marketplace licenses. |
| Can I redistribute sections or components from it? | Usually no unless the license explicitly allows redistribution. |
Webflow's current official template license is unusually explicit. A paid Webflow Marketplace template can be used to create one End Product for yourself or one client. If you want to use the same paid template for another client or another project, Webflow says you must purchase another license.
You can customize the template extensively and you can transfer the completed website to a client for a fee. However, modifying the design does not turn it into a new unrestricted asset: the resulting work remains subject to the original template license.
Webflow also states that paid templates cannot be redistributed or resold as templates, whether they are unchanged or modified. Individual components cannot be extracted for use outside the licensed End Product.

Webflow's Free Template License is more permissive for project count. Its current terms allow free Marketplace templates to be modified and used in multiple personal and commercial projects, including client work. The restriction that still matters is redistribution: a free template or its individual components cannot simply be resold, sublicensed or redistributed as template assets.
This is a useful example of why “Webflow template license” is not one universal rule. Paid and free templates have materially different reuse rights.
Framer's current Community Terms define licensed content around a permitted project and prohibit using that licensed content in more than one project, website, product or client engagement unless broader rights apply. Many current Framer Marketplace listings visibly show Single-Use.
Creators can also offer broader commercial tiers. For example, some 2026 Framer listings offer a standard one-project license alongside an extended option for unlimited websites. That means buyers should verify the actual license on the product they are purchasing rather than assuming every Framer template has identical reuse rights.

Flowmance supports commercial and client work, but the project limit depends on how you obtain the template. The current Flowmance License Agreement states that a standard template license is for one end product unless the applicable plan or subscription says otherwise.
Eligible Flowmance All Access plans explicitly include multi-project rights. The current Power and Lifetime plan descriptions state Build Unlimited Websites / Use with Unlimited Projects. This is different from purchasing an individual template under a one-project license.
For the latest plan-specific entitlement, always use the license and pricing terms shown at the time of purchase because subscription features can change.
Customization gives you a customized website; it does not normally cancel the source template's license. Changing typography, colors, imagery, page structure, CMS content or animations can make the finished site visually unique, but the underlying licensed template remains governed by its terms.
Webflow states this directly: even heavily modified work based on a paid Marketplace template remains subject to the Single-Use License. This principle is important for agencies that create substantial custom work on top of a template.
Yes, and templates can be especially useful for agencies because they shorten the foundation phase of a project. The licensing question is not whether client work is allowed in general; it is how many client projects the specific license covers.
For a one-off project, a single-use license can be enough. For an agency repeatedly launching websites, a multi-project library can be more economical and operationally simpler. Browse Flowmance Webflow templates, Framer templates, HTML templates and Figma templates to compare production formats.
There is an important difference between selling a completed client website and reselling the template. A license may let you customize a template, build one finished website and transfer that finished project to your client. That does not mean you can package the template, its source assets or extracted components as a competing product for resale.
Webflow's paid license explicitly allows a completed End Product to be transferred to one client while prohibiting redistribution or resale of the underlying template. Framer's Community Terms similarly restrict resale, redistribution and sublicensing of licensed content.
| License type | Best for | Typical limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Single-use | One personal or client website | Another project requires another license |
| Multi-project | Freelancers and studios | May be limited by plan duration or account terms |
| Unlimited-site | Agencies with repeat client work | Redistribution of source templates is still normally prohibited |
Do not treat “commercial use” and “unlimited reuse” as the same permission. A commercial single-use license can let you build and sell a website to one client while still requiring a new license for the next client. If you build repeatedly, look for explicit multi-project or unlimited-site rights rather than assuming a subscription or template purchase includes them.
For Flowmance products, check the current License Agreement and pricing before purchase. For marketplace products, the platform's license and the specific creator listing should be the source of truth.
